The Cherokee Language Master Apprentice Program is dedicated to creating new Cherokee language teachers. Through Cherokee language, values, behaviors and beliefs, CLMAP supports intergenerational language growth through the creation of language teachers.

CLMAP participants engage in a language immersion environment for two years as full-time language learners. To offset living expenses, CLMAP participants receive a bi-weekly educational benefit. Eight new learners are placed twice year, March 1 and September 1, through an application and interview process. Interested individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Pass a youth sensitive background
  • Intend to teach the Cherokee language and culture
  • 18 years or older
  • Available Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM
  • 80% Manitory Attendance

If accepted into the program please keep in mind:

  • 80% attendance is manitory failure to meet time requirement maybe result in dismissal
  • We are unable to provide assistance with child care
  • Participates receive an educational benefit and are not eligible for Sick or Annual leave
  • The ability to relocate or commute is the participates own responsibility
